Definition Of True Friends
There is a proverb saying that “A friend in need is a friend indeed”, meaning that a true friend is one who would offer help when you are in trouble. However, the phrase is sometimes misunderstood as “a person would become your friend if he/she needs help from you”. So, what is really meant by a true friend?
You will not be short of friends. However, it is difficult to find a true one. Even if you have hundreds of friends, they will not give you a hand when you are in trouble if they are not your true friends.
People come and go. True friends are those who would remain at your side regardless of situation. People who want to take advantage of you would only be friend with you when you are well-off.
We may forget some friends when we left some places. For instance, when we left our primary school and go to the secondary school, we make new friends and forget the old ones. And when we start working, we may also forget the old friends.
People often lose contact with their old friends when they change school, switch job and so on. This happens because a lot of the people that you once had interaction with are not actually your “friends”. They are simply people that are put at the same places with you because of work or shared responsibilities.
Sometimes we may make friends on purpose. For instance, we make friends on Internet because we are curious, and we chat with the opposite sex on the net because we want to have a partner. This kind of friendship is difficult to last long, though there are always exceptions. Only when we meet the people who share similar cultures, backgrounds or interests with us, can build up a long-lasting friendship.
True friends always concede and help each other. They are even willing to sacrifice for you. If you are demanding to your friends and you want them to agree with you on everything, you need to change your attitude. We should never expect too much of our friends and become dependent on them.
Living in this materialistic world, it is difficult to find a true friend. Remember not to rush for one, think thoroughly before you go ahead for it. You will find a true friend when you can love he/she more than anything in this world.
