I’ve found that one of the best mediums for marketing any business is internet email marketing. By using email as your medium of promotion you are almost guaranteeing your message will be read by thousands if not millions of people depending on the size of your email list. This form of promotion has grown by leaps and bounds over the years, but with it, came with the need to implement rules and regulations to govern it.

When starting an internet email marketing campaign, it’s important that your list is indeed targeted and 100% opt in. An opt in list is simply a mailing list where every person on the list has specifically requested to be on the list. It means that they have visited your site or a site you are affiliated with, and manually entered their information, which in turn gives you permission to email them with the information they requested.

When operating an email campaign, you need to abide by all the applicable laws. Do not take any shortcuts, or break any rules. You’ll have the peace of mind knowing that you are doing everything exactly as outlined in the regulations, therefore you can go about promoting your business ethically and without any legal implication. Many people overlook this aspect and turn to spamming to earn a quick buck, but it can lead to many legal complications that you surely don’t need.

Starting out with internet email marketing may require some upfront capital. It’s not always the most affordable way to get started, but if done right, it will indeed be very profitable. The internet has revolutionized the way we do business. In the past our methods of marketing directly to customers was through direct mail pieces and telemarketing. Even though those methods still exist today and are still solid ways of marketing, the real gem of all marketing has been email marketing. Being able to acquire email leads have taken online marketing to a new level. This form of marketing has literally changed the way most companies do business.

As with anything there are some rules to follow when you acquire email leads. Of course, you never email anyone who has not specifically opted in to receive information regarding your product or service. Do not randomly harvest email addresses from the internet as those are not real email leads. The ways you can acquire leads is true co-registration, lead purchase, lead leasing, and your own lead generation.

The best way to setup an email marketing campaign is to have the campaign setup based on categories. It’s best to have your email leads divided into individual categories based on their interest. For example, you may have leads who are interested in information regarding health related products. You’ll then also have leads who are interested in starting a home based business. These leads should never be intertwined unless in rare cases the lead is actually interested in both categories.

Remember, research is the key aspect to your success. Do thorough evaluation regarding how to market online using email. You’ll find that there are many sites that offer great tips and strategies. No matter what option you go with for generating email leads, always follow all the rules regulations as you can be shut down pretty quickly if you are accused of spamming.
