Humor Turns E-Mail Viral

by Steve Shaw

Email is one of the most known tools of viral marketing. You send information on others regarding the product and service that you offer.

A study by Sharpe Partners, an interactive marketing agency, revealed that 89% of adult Internet users in America share content with others via e-mail. This is excellent news for those companies who use self-propelling word-of-mouse” e-mail techniques to sell their products.

The study generated some interesting results regarding the type of content that is most often forwarded, as well. The most popular content is humorous material.

Humor is the top one category on emails, followed by news, healthcare and medical information, religious and spiritual topic, games, business and personal finance topic, sports/hobbies and so on If you choose email as your tool to promote your products, make sure that the content of your email is mainly on humors.

To make sure that your email will go viral and will catch the interest of other people, you can include jokes and funny videos, cartoon and any other form of entertainment so that people will encourage passing it to others.

They are a lot more likely to hit the forward button and send your email to their friends and relatives if it is an “advertainment” rather than an advertisement.

One of these examples is when Disneyland forwards an email for about a million people with a picture taken at their park. It was the picture of Donald Duck resting flat in front of Cinderella Castle. The tile of it was “Bird Flu has hit Disneyland”. It became viral and people buy the idea that was used by Disneyland to promote their park.

I’m sure that those people with computers have seen the picture of Donald Duck. Disneyland comes up with an idea of spreading their not so called advertisement since lots of people enjoy it. Instead of showing their customers a plain advertisement, they put some flavor on it so that people can’t see the true purpose of that email.

Don’t forget that people are fun loving in nature. If you will forward an email regarding your product, make sure that it will not bore them or even worse delete it on their inbox. Remember in order for you to catch their attention, it must contain something that can make them laugh, in that manner you will be insure that your email will go to other inbox not on their email junks.

Email = Successful Viral Marketing

by Steve Shaw

Are you sometimes surprised or amazed on how a high traffic website drive lots of traffic to their website? Others pay huge sums of money to get traffic to their site, others use advertising campaigns and a variety of marketing approaches.

You don’t have to do this if you don’t really want to pay large amounts of money. There are ways to generate low cost website traffic without having too spend that much money. One way of generating traffic in an inexpensive way is through viral marketing.

Since viral marketing has a wide variety of possibilities and means of achieving your goals, it is important that you pre-plan for the right system for the viral marketing to work and for your e-business to succeed.

Make sure that you avoid getting over-zealous. Try to get rid of the temptation to spam. Spamming is still used widely by online marketers to promote their products, but with the presence of government restrictions and fines you’ll need to think twice before you do this kind of strategy and at the same time it will affect the professional image of your own site and e-business.

Spamming requires a database that contains a huge list of e-mail addresses set up so that the message can be delivered with one click. The problem with it (aside from the governmental restrictions and associated fines) is that it irritates the recipients and kills the validity of your campaign, which in turn kills the factors that would motivate someone to refer your site.

See to it that your website is appealing to your customers. Make them feel so important, safe and cared for, each time they visit your site. Don’t forget to put your email address on it, since this is your way to communicate with them and vice versa.

The proper way to handle email permission is to first let your customer know that you will not transmit their e-mail addresses to third party companies. The next thing to do is to attach the need for their e-mail addresses to benefits they can receive.

For example: Coupons or discounts that are only available to members who receive e-mail notifications. With each e-mail you send the viral marketing effect takes place.

The Virus That Hits The Houston Museum Of Natural Science

by Steven Shaw

The Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) was chosen to showcase the world-famous Exhibition for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. HMNS quickly realized that while the exhibit was expected to generate a great deal of interest, it didn’t have a lot of appeal for their core audience. The success of the exhibition, therefore, would rest in how it was marketed.

They quickly asked the help of Spur Digital to reach their target market and create an interest in the Exhibit. HMNS was also hopeful that they could get new audience and members for additional revenue in the future.

HMNS along with Spur Digital, spotted their target audience for the promotion and built up an integrated online media plan to achieve their goals.

It featured an online competition that was promoted in targeted online media channels, which includes Web sites related in exhibit, lists of third party E-mail and Search Engines. Viral marketing played a big role for this campaign, so Spur created a strategy to persuade their customers to refer them to other people.

Spur studied their target demographic market through their age, sex, people who loved fantasy and action movies, tech-savvy folks that go to museums and players of video games.

Out of the stated information above, Spur selected search engine advertisements that would concentrate on sponsored and dedicated e-mail advertisements, specific search words, list of e-mails of HMNS and banner ads on web sites that aimed to reach the need of their market.

Did it work? You bet! The results were excellent. The impact of the viral marketing effort was astounding – over 23% of registrants came originated from the Tell-A-Friend feature.

The direct marketing efforts yielded impressive results as well. In total, the 12 week, locally-targeted online campaign yielded more than 2 million targeted impressions, 40,000 unique visits, almost 12,000 and 6,000 invitations sent by friends at a cost per action of less than $3.00. These contributed to the record attendance of almost 100,000 over 3 months.
